Licensed in 2004, I became involved in the amateur radio community right from the start; joining Jupiter Tequesta Repeater Group, Martin County Amateur Radio Association and Martin County ARES as well as ARRL. I also revised my personal website, now known as k4ocd.com to reflect my amateur radio hobby.

By 2005 I had upgraded my license privileges, completing Element 1 5WPM Morse code and the Element 3 General exam and began ARECC, FEMA and NIMS training. I wrote the nationally distributed publication entitled “Practical Radio Application - for new licensees’; a resource assembling the vast quantity of “newbie” questions that I had following licensure and intended to help other new licensees as well as club mentoring programs. I was also appointed AEC – Secretary for Martin County ARES in the year.

In 2006 I completed 11 FEMA/NIMS courses, ARECC EC002 and was appointed ARRL Southern Florida Section Affiliated Club Coordinator later in the year.

In 2007 I was appointed to Southern Florida Section Assistant Section Manager – Webmaster at which time I began to create the sections new web presence. Since that time I have maintained and hosted the sflarrl.org website seen today. During the summer of 2007 I was offered an ARRL SFL Section Technical Specialist appointment and I also upgraded to Amateur Extra.

Other web projects included k4ocd.com, wx4mc.org and macaraweb.com

What else do I do? I’m the comptroller for the company my wife and I started in 1995, an electronics, electro-mechanical design and manufacturing firm. I also enjoy photography as you can see from my personal website; actually, the majority of images used on the sflarrl.org website were taken from my portfolio of over 58,000 pictures. I also mountain bike, well “trail-ride” as we call it in Florida, often riding 25 miles of single track in any given day.

That’s about it; thanks for taking the time to get to know me! I hope to meet you at a Hamfest or Southern Florida Section meeting sometime soon.
